5 thumbs up if I can describe Laskar Pelangi The Movie (don’t ask what is the fifth thumbs). Anyway, I am the Ratatoulie’s Anton Ego of movie. A.k.a I am so stingy and cynical of Indonesian movie. But this is it, Laskar Pelangi is Indonesian movie of the year
Af first I little bit skeptical with this movie. . .primarily with the existence of Tora Sudiro as one of the cast (I’m bored with Tora Sudiro). And you know, I already bought 3 of Andrea Hirata’s novel and only finished the first 7 pages of it. The novel is. . .humm, how should I say.. Boring (yeah I’m not a novel guy).
Buying the ticket is not that hard and the more excitement was ‘pay one for two’ promo with debit Mandiri or BCA credit card payment. Honestly I would pay full price for this movie, it’s worth it.
The movie was telling about the spirit of 10 poor kids of Bangka belitong 1970’s in the pursuit of education. They have nothing but a strong will to get their dreams. In the other hand, there were 3 teachers that dedicated themselves to give an education for nothing in return. They just get paid with several kilos of rice.
With a very miserable school building they hold the class. The education in this school is not merely about marks stated in our report, but more to our heart. It’s the education of morality and kindness of a human being.
The movie is very touching with a strong character of each cast. The movie makes us tears, laugh, smile at the same time. ..incredible. ..the soundtrack by Nidji make it so perfect. This is it, this is it. . .Kudos for Andrea Hirata, Riri Riza production and everyone behind Laskar Pelangi the movie. My biggest gratitude for all of you guys.
As the movie said, it’s all about giving as much as possible to others not receiving. That’s how our live can be meaningful . . .
persistent, stand still, don’t be afraid.. . Catch your dream!

Well, I’m the opposite of your comments about this movie. Sorry.
I think you should read the books!
I’ve read it a few pages and get bored already. . heheh
I’m waiting for the release of DVD so I can get my friend from Indo to send to me since the movie is not released in my hometown…
I’ve read the book and contrary to your comments, the first 7 pages got me crying… Hehs…
Cuz he was describing the school and I feel so humbled by the situation in Belitung. I’m never taking my education for granted again!
Anyways, hopefully, the movie would be as good as the book I’ve read!
Thanks for your critics on the film!
