A lot have been telling stories about the banning of some cosmetic products, and some were shocked: products that have been part of their life were claimed ‘TOXIC’. Not that it is addicting in a good way, but it really is containing carcinogens substances that could danger its user.
Here in Indonesia we have Food and Drugs Administration (BPOM), the institution that authorized all of the items ‘safe’ to use by Indonesian consumer. By the way, I am so PRO regarding this institution works, but sometimes there are some things that I cannot get it.
First, Okey let say that carcinogens including mercury and hydroquinone is contained in some particular brands, but is it so justifiable to ban the products just because they contains harmful substances? My basic analysis was: THERE ARE a lot of other substances that considered toxic to human body: excessive fat in fast-food would cause obesity and high blood pressure, migraine, artery blockage, etc. Excessive sugar and artificial sweetener would leads to diabetic, etc, TOBACCO? Don’t ask it’s a short cut death, and a lot of other things. My point is, I think that all of the substances is having a chance ‘to be harmful’ for their user.
You like it or not, we are living in the era where we are so prone to a lot of harmful threat. Pesticides in our vegetables, air pollution we inhaled, radiation by the monitor you are reading right now and the list goes on. Everything is harmful, everything is dangerous, SO WHY the BPOM is only banning particular products? If we want to all out, then we have to ban all of the products in our life! Wew. .
So by ending up our consumption towards the cosmetics-products that have already banned by BPOM, I believe that it won’t lengthen our age; WE ARE STILL threatened by others items in life.
Previously it was a product of well known-expensive cosmetics named SK-II, BPOM was claimed that this product is containing mercury. BPOM was on-airing those news all over the media and urging the Indonesian to not buying their products. The following morning, I remember, I read a one-page advertisement by SK-II clarifying about the things actually going on. They said that in the apple we eat, meat we grill, water we drink, it all contains mercury! So now, IT SAFE to use unless the number of toxic items is not exceeding our body can tolerate.

Currently, I am using some products that not listed in BPOM : Cetaphil face cleanser and my vitamin c, zinc supplement from American brand GNC along with some of my acne medication. I don’t need BPOM authorization in this case. . .I trust this brand. . hummm. . .Only God knows how many years remaining I will live in this earth, all what I am trying to do is live happily now.

Yeah like I said in my blog (commenting your comment), “I don’t think I need BPOM’s approval to claim MAC are safe, they’ve been tested at their country of origin.”
One thing I wondered though, how would BPOM monitor & control consumer goods being sold through online markets like Ebay and Multiply yah…
Hweeekee..yeah so far my body can tolerate it nggik, puluhan tahun minum es dengan pemanis buatan, puluhan tahun dengan saos warna-warni, gorengan yang pake minyak entah-dari-kapan-itu, kalo cosmetic..? sejauh ini masih facial foam murah meriah..(tinggal nunggu berita aja ngandung mercuri apa nggak..)
then godspeed my dear friend Anggi!

Yes, everything is dangerous or not depends to its dose.
Btw, sometime product from other countries was not suitable for us, vice versa.
We do need bpom, just like US need the FDA
